3D Imaging and Dental Work

When you have a problem, you want the best solution possible. Whether it’s homework, an issue with your car or a household repair, it’s important to be prepared for any obstacles.

Your mouth is no different.

If you have a dental problem in Scottsdale or Payson, you want the best treatment plan possible. One of the best ways to get that treatment plan is through 3D imaging. At Winterholler Dentistry, we utilize the latest dental technology to create the best treatment plans for Arizonians as possible, which includes 3D imaging.

Let’s discuss a little more about what 3D imaging involves and its benefits for Winterholler Dental Implants & Cosmetic Dentistry patients.

How 3D Imaging Works

Dental 3D imaging involves a cone-shaped X-ray beam that captures data about your mouth and reconstructs a 3D image on a computer. To do this, an imaging system rotates around the patient to capture three different regions: dental (teeth); oral and maxillofacial (mouth, jaw, and neck) and ears nose, and throat (ENT).

According to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA), “(dental 3D imaging) systems have been sold in the United States since the early 2000s and are increasingly used by radiologists and dental professionals for various clinical applications including dental implant planning, visualization of abnormal teeth, evaluation of the jaws and face, cleft palate assessment, diagnosis of dental caries (cavities), endodontic (root canal) diagnosis and diagnosis of dental trauma.”

Basically, this 3D imaging helps cosmetic dentists like Drs. Chris and Patrice Winterholler perform their best work possible.

Benefits of 3D Imaging

Overall, 3D imaging makes it easier for your dentist to give you the best treatment possible. It’s also safer than traditional X-rays, since it has a much lower dose of radiation. Here are just a few of the other benefits of 3D imaging:

  • More Detail: Traditional X-rays only offer a two-dimensional image of your mouth, whereas 3D imaging provides a three-dimensional image. That extra dimension gives your dentist a tremendous amount of specific information about your mouth. The software association with 3D imaging allows your dentist to do findings-oriented work.
  • Better Planning: This detailed information also allows your dentist to quickly and accurately plan for your procedure, down to the smallest detail. Planning isn’t as precise when it comes to traditional X-rays.
  • Improved Efficiency: The 3D image of your mouth can be easily called up as needed and printed quickly, allowing your dentist to streamline the treatment time. Best of all, saving time often means saving money.
